Swarming Heads is an interactive installation exploring the emergent behaviours of a robot colony. Seven small mobile robots set on a circular shaped pedestal will interact with each other and with human observers approaching their world. The humans may perturb the natural robotic order by distraction and interaction through visual gesture based communication. The robotic agents are fully autonomous with multi-sensory perception. They are driven by an attention mechanism interwoven with basic building blocks of behaviour. However, visitors can also take direct control of a robot via a web interface and become part of the robot society.
